Inside The Curriculum

The Thinking Person’s Martial Art

Adult and teen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Davis Martial Arts & Fitness in Pilot Point is the most beginner-friendly door into serious martial arts. You learn positions, escapes, sweeps, and submissions in a welcoming, all-levels room, and you get in shape without ever staring at a treadmill.

BJJ is often called physical chess: leverage and technique beat size and strength. As a certified Machado Method affiliate, the instruction here is rooted in one of the founding families of the art. Every body type and every starting point is welcome on the mat.

You are not too old and you are not too out of shape to start. Plenty of the adults training here walked in years past the age they thought that door closed, or carrying weight they meant to lose first. The mat is where the shape comes from, not something you have to arrive with.

Real Self-Defense You Can Pressure-Test

BJJ is the most studied martial art on the ground because it works. You learn to control distance, escape worse positions, and end a confrontation without striking, and you get to test it live, safely, every class.

Fitness That Happens by Accident

Nobody counts reps in BJJ. The conditioning, mobility, and full-body strength show up on their own because the training is real, and it keeps you coming back long after a gym membership would have lapsed.

Before Day One

What to Bring on Day One.

  1. 01 Comfortable athletic clothes; shorts without pockets are best for grappling. Class is barefoot on the mat.
  2. 02 A water bottle and a small towel. Rounds run continuously and the room gets warm, so bring more water than you think an hour needs.
  3. 03 Long hair tied back, and fingernails and toenails trimmed before class. On a grappling mat that is a partner-safety basic, and a good sign of how the room is run.
  4. 04 Arrive ten minutes early on day one. There is nothing to buy for your free first class. No gi to buy to start.

What Families Are Saying

The kindest words come from the families who have been on the mat the longest.

  • I started going here with little to no experience. A sense of nervousness was gone instantly when the coaches and students started helping me immediately. Everyone is super helpful and knowledgeable, they made it super easy to get into. I’m looking forward to my future here!

  • I just started here a couple of weeks ago and I have really enjoyed it. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. If you’re thinking about joining but have reservations about it, go for it, you won’t regret it. Cameron is a great instructor and very professional.

  • I can’t say enough good things about this family-owned BJJ academy. From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like family, not just another student. The instructors are not only incredibly skilled but also patient, encouraging, and truly dedicated to helping everyone—kids and adults alike—reach their goals.

Before You Sign Up

Common questions about Adult & Teen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Pilot Point, TX.

Can I start BJJ as an adult with zero experience?

Yes. Most of our adults started with none. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most beginner-friendly martial arts because instructors meet you exactly where you are, and technique matters more than athleticism.

I am out of shape. Can I still do this?

Absolutely. You do not get in shape and then start BJJ. You get in shape by doing it. Intensity is calibrated to your body, not to the most experienced person in the room.

Do I have to spar (roll) right away?

No. Live rolling is introduced progressively, when you and your instructor agree you are ready. Plenty of your first classes are technique and controlled drilling.

Is BJJ safe to train regularly?

It has one of the lowest injury rates of any martial art: no strikes to the face, no knockouts. Most adults train for years with nothing worse than the occasional bump.

What does the free first class include?

A full class with guided beginner instruction. Come train, meet the room, and decide afterward.
